"친애하는 국민 여러분,
저로 인해 그동안 국민 여러분이 겪고 있을 많은 어려움에 관해 진심으로 죄송하게 생각하며 마음 아프게 여기고 있습니다.

여러분들이 잘 아시다싶이 저는 잠시 한남동 대통령 관저에서 경호실의 보호를 받으며 칩거 생활을 하다가 지금은 서울구치소에 수감돼 있는 상태입니다.

그동안 제가 이곳에 있음으로 저를 위해 걱정해주시고 기도해주신 국민 여러분의 사랑을 항상 잊지 않고 있습니다. 
 

이제 저는 잠시 대통령으로서가 아니라, 그리스도 안에서 거듭난 새로운 피조물 중의 하나로, 그리스도인으로서의 제 심경에 일어난 신앙고백적  변화를 말씀드리고자 합니다.

죄인 중의 괴수로 고백했던 죄인 사울이 주의 은혜로 복음 전도자 사도 바울이 되기까지 일어난 놀라운 변화가, 제가 이렇게 영어의 몸이 되어 있는 현 상황에서 저에게도 일어났다는 것입니다.

지금은 저를 위해 십자가에 죽으시고 부활하신 예수 그리스도의 사랑을 알기에, 저 개인적으로는 많은 사람들에게 둘러싸여 있는 대통령 집무실에 있는 것보다 지금과 같이 주위에 아무도 없이 저 혼자만 있는 독방에서의 시간들이 더욱 주님의 사랑을 알아갈 수 있는 은혜의 시간들이 되기에 오히려 감사할 뿐입니다. 
 

'주의 궁정에서의 한 날이 다른 곳에서의 천 날보다 나은즉 악인의 장막에 사는 것보다 내 하나님의 성전 문지기로 있는 것이 좋사오니' (시 84:10)
 

국민 여러분,
거듭 말씀드리거니와 대통령으로서의 저는 어떤 의미에서든지 여러분에게 심려와 민폐를 끼쳐드린 점에서 용서를 구할 수밖에 없는 죽을 수밖에 없는 죄인입니다.

그러나 대통령의 직무가 중지된 상태의 일개인으로서 볼 때 저는 이곳에서 주님을 만나 구원을 받을 수 있었기에 이제 죽음에서 부활하여 하나님의 백성으로서의 기쁨을 노래하고 있는 새로운 피조물로서의 하나님의 자녀 윤석열입니다.

그러므로 여러분, 현재 대통령의 직무가 중지된 이 나라 대한민국을 위해서 눈물로 기도해주십시요.

그러나 저 개인 윤석열을 위해서는 기쁨으로 제 변화된 인생을 축복해주십시오.
 

이제 끝으로 이 나라의 모든 분들께 속죄의 심정으로 거듭 부탁드리고자 합니다. 저의 신앙고백 이후로 저를 둘러싼 그 어떤 분열이나 대립과 비난은 그쳐주시기 바랍니다. 여야와 좌우 그리고 보수와 진보를 막론하고 우리 국민들이 서로를 물고 뜯으며 죽이고자 하는 싸움은 이제 그만 그쳐야 합니다.

우리나라는 지금도 같은 민족끼리 남북으로 총뿌리를 겨눈 채 대립돼 있고 또 남한에서만도 동서의 지역 감정이 극심하여 항상 정치의 역기능을 가져왔는데 이제야말로 우리는 모든 대립 관계를 떨쳐내고 오로지 단일 민족 대한민국의 기치 아래 하나로 뭉쳐야 합니다.
 

이제 이러한 민족의 거대한 통합 과정을 위해 저는 저를 둘러싼 모든 분쟁의 단초들을 제거하기 위하여 이후로 저의 어떤 권리도 주장하지 않겠습니다. 오직 법에 의해서 그리고 국민들의 하나되고자 하는 열망 안에서 제게 주어지는 앞으로의 모든 법의 결과에 순복할 것이며 이로 인해 모든 갈등과 마찰을 종식시키기를 바라겠습니다.

끝으로 사도 바울이 유대 법정에서 '-오늘 내 말을 듣는 모든 사람도 다 이렇게 결박된 것 외에는 나와 같이 되기를 원하나이다'(행 26:29)라는 신앙고백으로 여러분들에게 지금의 제 심정을 전해드리고 싶습니다.
 

사랑하는 국민 여러분; 감사합니다.
법에서의 저에 대한 판결이 어떻게 되어지든 저는 그 결과에 순복하며, 저를 법의 심판대 앞에 세우기 전 먼저 하나님의 심판대 앞에 서게 해주신 나의 여호와 하나님께서 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루게 하실 것을 믿기에 담담한 마음으로 오히려 감사할 뿐입니다.

여러분, 그동안 감사했습니다.
자유의 몸으로 밖에서 다시 만나뵐 때까지 건강하십시요~"

"Dear citizens,
I sincerely apologize for the many difficulties you have been experiencing because of me, and I feel heartbroken.

As you all know, I was temporarily living in seclusion under the protection of the security office at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, and am now imprisoned in the Seoul Detention Center.

I will never forget the love of the citizens who have worried about me and prayed for me while I was here.

Now, I would like to talk about the change in my confessional faith that has occurred in my heart, not as the president, but as one of the new creations born again in Christ, as a Christian.

The amazing change that occurred from Saul, who confessed to being the worst of sinners, to becoming the evangelist and apostle Paul through the grace of the Lord has also occurred to me in my current situation as a prisoner.

Now, because I know the love of Jesus Christ who died on the cross and was resurrected for me, I personally am more grateful for the time I spend in solitary confinement, where I am alone, than in the presidential office surrounded by many people, because it is a time of grace that allows me to know the love of the Lord more.

'For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness..' (Psalm 84:10)

Dear Citizens,
I repeat that as President, I am a sinner who cannot help but ask for forgiveness for any trouble or inconvenience I may have caused you.

However, as an individual whose duties as President have ceased, I am a new creation, a child of God, Yoon Seok-yeol, who has been resurrected from death and is now singing the joy of being God's people.

Therefore, please pray with tears for this country, the Republic of Korea, where the duties of President have ceased.

However, for me, Yoon Seok-yeol, please bless my changed life with joy.

Now, finally, I would like to ask all of you in this country with a heart of atonement. I hope that any division, conflict, or criticism surrounding me will stop after my confession of faith. Regardless of the ruling and opposition parties, the left and right, the conservatives and the progressives, the fights in which our people bite and tear each other to death must stop now.

Even now, our country is divided into the North and the South, with the same people pointing their guns at each other, and even in South Korea, regional sentiments between the East and the West are so intense that they have always caused political dysfunction. Now, we must shake off all conflicts and unite as one under the banner of the Republic of Korea, a single nation.

Now, for this great process of national unification, I will not assert any of my rights from now on in order to remove all the causes of conflict surrounding me. I will submit to the results of all laws given to me in accordance with the law and in the aspirations of the people to become one, and I hope that this will put an end to all conflicts and friction.

Finally, I would like to convey my current feelings to you through the confession of faith that the Apostle Paul made in the Jewish court: "And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds." (Acts 26:29).

My dear loving citizens; thank you.
Whatever the verdict of the law may be, I submit to the result, and I am grateful to my Lord God, who has allowed me to stand before the judgment seat of God before the judgment seat of the law, and I believe that all things will work together for good.
